  1. LSB 2. ran well for a few days on my XP. Now, when starting my computer I get "Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (could not open SQLEVN70.RLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem." I've tried to uninstall everything I can find. When running the LSB installer SQL Server 2008 Express Edition it gets almost to the end then errors out. I'm stuck. I have LSB 2 running on a Vista machine, but I want it on my XP.

  2. OK.

First, let's have you attempt to install from Microsoft's installation package. Please visit this page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=58ce885d-508b-45c8-9fd3-118edd8e6fff&DisplayLang=en

Let me know how that installation goes.

I'm going to work on a page later today for the manual talking about the various weird issues we've seen with installing SQL Server 2008 Express.

  3. When I installed LSB installer SQL Server 2008 Express Edition on my XP computer, I discovered that I had another SQL server running that prevented the install. What worked for me was to go into Control Panel, then Perfomance and Maintenance, then Administrative Tools, and then click on Services, and finally to Stop any services from running that had SQL in its name. Then I ran the install and it went through perfectly.

  4. Thanks, John.

I plan on including that advice in whatever documentation I end up providing.

  5. I've tried everything I can think: Uninstalled, turned everything off, tried to reinstalled, but I can't get paste SQL install.
