I realize that it is very possible that my question affects no one out there, but I figured I would ask anyway...

Has anyone tried to run LSB in a Ubuntu WINE environment?

I have tried to do so using Ubuntu 10.4 and the WINE environment native to it. The file downloads just fine but does not install correctly. The problem I have is that SQL Server 2008 Express does not seem to be able to load. Apparently SQL 2008 requires a Windows Vista/7 file to make it work that WINE cannot "recreate".

I have been fiddling with Ubuntu for a while now to see if it would work as a replacement for Windows and I have been pretty happy so far, especially with the use of WINE. LSB has been my first program I was not able to load/operate using WINE and I am hoping someone may have tried before and found a way to make it work.

I have been watching the development of a couple of programs with regard to wine. One is the digital library Libronix. The other is "Lutheran Service Builder". These are the only two programs I use which require me to run windows.

From my understanding, neither one will work under wine at this point because of their dependence on dotnet. According to cph's web site, "Lutheran Service Builder" requires .net 3.5. I have not tried installing "Lutheran Service Builder" under wine.

I am also using Ubuntu 10.04.

    Friends:
As a novice user of Linux, your question interests me. It seems to me you have a grasp of the situation and its hang ups. LSB's dependency on .net is quite a roadblock for this type of implementation. I have a feeling future versions of Builder may circumvent these issues.
    Blessings!

  4. Just tried using it with Wine on Mac OS X before reading this page. Failed, of course. How frustrating.

Any ballpark projections on the web-based version of Builder you've hinted at?
