I'm planning to install Builder 2 on my church computer this coming weekend. I have already installed it on my home computer (though I may migrate the program to a laptop later this summer).

With Builder 1, I could copy the user.mdb file from church to a thumb drive, take it home and load it onto my home machine, so the data was the same on both installations. I don't see any obvious way to do this with Builder 2. Is there something I'm missing? Or will I just have to save all the individual services to move them? Thanks!

  2. You *can* export what is called a "state" of your database, transport it, and then import it into the other installation.

On the home computer, go to Tools > Backup data…

You will see a progress indicator while Builder takes your user database and saves information on its current state and information. This file will be stored on your hard disk in a standard location. The location is:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Concordia Publishing House\Lutheran Service Builder 2\States

or on Windows Vista, it is here:

    C:\ProgramData\Concordia Publishing House\Lutheran Service Builder 2\States

These folders are normally "hidden" on default installations of both versions of Windows. You may have to make hidden folders visible in order to accomplish this task. Check with your system help by pressing F1 while at the Desktop and searching for "hidden files" for more information on how to show hidden files and folders.

The states are kept using strings of letters/numbers that aren't easy to determine which is the most recent if you have stored more than one; you'll have to look at the created by date to tell that. If you've never backed up your database, there should be only one state in this folder.

After you install Builder 2 on the church computer, go through basic setup, then take the state from your home computer and put it in the matching folder on the church computer. Once you have done this, go to:

    Tools > Restore data…

and you should see the date and time you created the state on your home computer in the list. Restore that state and everything should be moved over to the new computer.

If you encounter any issues with this process, please let us know ASAP so we can help you with moving your data.

I'm trying to move my notes from LSB 2 on a XP PC to LSB 2 on a Vista laptop. I've followed your directions above but when I try to Restore the data, there is nothing in the "Load a Saved State" box.

    I appreciate your help.

  4. Did you place the saved state in the exact same folder on the new computer?

I sure did. All that is in the states file is a zip called T5CTJ5U.zip. I tried extracting it into the states folder and that didn't work either.

  6. How large is that state ZIP file?

Just to make sure that we're talking about the same thing: I wish to move the notes that I add in the notes box for the hymns that I use.

Hm. This is the right process for bringing your notes over from your other installation.

Just to double-check: the state you tried moving is in the cph_lsb_user folder, right? So, on Vista, T5CTJ5U.zip is in the folder:

    C:\ProgramData\Concordia Publishing House\Lutheran Service Builder 2\States\cph_lsb_user

Ah ha! I was missing the cph_lsb_user folder. I added it and now everything is working great. Thank you both for your help!

I have done the above and I now have all the statistics, modified services and other information. Only problem is that when I try to edit a previous bulletin that I created prior to transferring to a new computer, the bulletins don't exist. It prompts me to select a service.

    Any help would be appreciated!

PS, Bob, it was nice meeting you at the convention!

I just opened it up again and everything was there. Curious! Must have been the Microsoft updates.

I realize this post is over 2 years old, but I'm hoping someone still checks.

So I've reformatted my Windows 7 Machine (Win 7 Ultimate - 64bit) running all of the latest updates and I've reinstalled Builder - latest version - and I'm trying to restore my backup. When I do, it gives me a warning (Error Message 1) "Your user database appears to be missing or corrupted. Would you like Lutheran Service Builder to recreate it? WARNING: You will lose any saved services and resources."

After clicking "OK" it gives me the message (Error Message 2) "LSB 2 was able to load the state of My Worship Resources but was unable to resume using that database. LSB 2 must be restarted."

After clicking OK - I close and restart LSB 2 and I end up getting "Error Message 1" (see above). I click OK and nothing. I've tried multiple times and it just keeps doing nothing. The only way to move forward is to delete the "cpu_lsb_user" and "cpu_lsb_user_log" files under the "Program Data" folder and then it rebuilds the databases but, obviously, I have nothing restored.

What I really want is my hymn usage statistics. I've exported all of my custom hymns, elements, etc. so I can re-import those (although having to back them up one at a time was a pain).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  15. Greetings, it sounds like the backup is corrupting the files. Unfortunately, it may be best to start fresh. You could try a different computer to confirm it is the backup causing the issue, or you could e-mail us the backup file and we could try it on our end.
