I'm running LSBuilder on our local network. But the only way I can run it is to turn off the firewalls on all the computers involved. I've tried several different firewall programs and all are the same. Does anyone know how to set up (for instance) the Windows firewall so LSBuilder can run remotely?

Are you executing the application itself over the network? If so, I'm not sure how much we can help you as we have never tested it in that sort of an environment and didn't design it to work in that way.
The only connections I know it makes are HTTP connections on port 80 and MS SQL connections (I'm not sure on that port).

No I'm running the application locally but accessing the data on MSSQL over the network. It is clearly the firewall because I've shut everything else down in turn to determine what is the problem. I've tried to make the exception in the firewall but it makes no difference.

Sooooo... How do I set up the fire wall so LSB can get through? Do you have any documentation on this?

What Firewall are you using?

I'm currently using pc-cillin but I've also used Microsoft. I'm running Vista.

Are all the machines running the same firewall? It could be they are conflicting if they are not.

I'm afraid we don't have any documentation on how to set LSB up to work with a firewall; but if we figure this out, then maybe we'll have some!
I need to learn more about SQL connections and firewalls. Your log files might have some useful information about the exact point where the conflict occurs. Have you submitted a System Report? If not, could you? "Submit a System Report" will be in your "Lutheran Service Builder 2" folder in your Start Menu. On Vista, if you start typing "Submit a System Report," the utility should show up.
I'm sorry for the hassle!

Am I the only user doing this? I'll send you what log files I have. However, the error screen doesn't come up with the error. When I run LSBuilder, the LSB Splash Screen appears then it waits a long time before responding with a dialog box titled "Connect to Server - Lutheran Service Builder 2" It's contents are:
"Lutheran Service Builder 2 could not log onto
TRINITY-PC\SQLEXPRESSServer Name: TRINITY1-PC\SQLEXPRESS
Authentication: SQL Server authentication
User name: LSB
Password: spotty"All the data on the dialog box is correct.
If I shut down the firewall on both computers and click ok LSB continues normally.
If I select cancel LSB ends without the error dialog.I've run "SendLog" I hope it give you info on this problem.

OK, All I'm doing is running Windows Firewall. I'm still getting the same message. Program is running on my local machine. How do I get access to MSSQL through port 80 to work? I have to shut down the windows firewall on the machine with the DB to make this happen. Been living with this now for 6 months and I'm kinda hoping you guys can talk me through this.
thanks.

Do you have to shut down the firewall on both ends, or only one?

Thanks for the reply. Just the server, not the client.
