  1. I have commissioned a new hymn for the fiftieth anniversary of our sanctuary, and I would like to insert it into Builder. I found this feature and have typed in the lyrics. Now I would like to insert the music or even match the music of a current LSB hymn, and link them together, so that it would look as pretty as the ones in the LSB. Is there a way to do this with the limited computer skills that I have?

  2. It is not possible to match the hymn you have entered to an LSB graphic as they are fixed to their assigned hymns within Builder.

If you had a TIFF file of your hymn in a melody-only format, you could import it into Builder and then assign the stanzas. We recommend 600dpi for best results.

If you have this information and would like to do so, please let me know and I'll whip up some documentation for you and the manual.

  3. A TIFF file? 600dpi? Is that the same a MIDI?

  4. Builder can't generate a melody graphic from a MIDI file - you would have to have a graphic of the melody line generated by a program like Finale or Sibelius.

Those graphics are usually in TIFF format.

  5. I'm hoping to do something similar. Any chance of supporting pdf? I could convert the pdf to a TIFF, but it would save a step if it's fairly simple to add a converter (I know--in programming, no such thing as simple).

So I assume only the melody line can be visible in this file?

No, you'd want the entire engraving to be visible in the image file. What we did with all the hymns in the Service Book is to import their entire engravings into Builder. Builder then, in a sense, cuts the image into a bunch of horizontal slices, and you match the slices to their appropriate stanzas. So all the text in the "Melody" content of any service element is stored as an image.

  7. OK, I converted a PDF to TIFF and tried this, and it seems to work o.k. It would be nice, besides melody & lyrics (grey & blue), to have a "skip" white, so things like guitar chords or extraneous white space could be removed from the bulletin version.

    Doable?

Good idea, pastordale! That is doable. I can't say yet when we'll work it into Builder 2; but I'll put it on my to-do list!
