OK.

The .NET Framework 3.5 is required to use Builder 2, so installing it separately was going to be my next suggestion.

See if you can get it to download and install using Windows Update. The .NET Framework update is usually in the optional downloads section.

Ryan:

I tried the install program again and got the same result. Like you, I went to the http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=118076 site trough my browser and downloaded dotnetfx35setup then ran it. Everything seemed to be working fine until I got the screen to monitor the progress of downloading the .netframework 3.5 files. It could not establish a connection with the website. It retried three times, then I killed it.

My guess is that I've got something going on with my computer, a computer that I intend to replace after the first of the year. With that in mind, I'm inclined to bow out of the Builder 2.0 beta testing for the time being and just continue using 1.0 when I need Builder's services. If something else comes to your mind, I'll give it a try.

Rick,

You may just need to try again; you weren't able to download a file from Microsoft's Web site. I just entered the URL myself and found that the link is working, so give it another shot and let me know how it goes. It's possible that the Microsoft server on the other side wasn't properly paying attention or something was weird with your internet connection.

Ryan,

I downloaded the files. The LSB remover program worked fine. However, when I tried running lsb2_2507.exe, it failed. I have a DSL connection and as evidenced by the fact that I posted this message, I am successfully connected to the internet. The details directed me to an install.log file, and here it is:

(I suppose both would be an option, too.)

OK.

There's no upgrade path from where you are to where we need to get you, so you need to do this:

1. Download and run this tool: http://cphdev.com/downloads/2.0/lsb_dbremove.exe
2. Uninstall both the CPH Software Updater and Lutheran Service Builder 2 from your system.
3. Download the new bootstrapping installer from http://cphdev.com/downloads/2.0/lsb2_2507.exe and run it.

Let me know how that goes. We need to get you updated to the new stuff pronto.

Ryan:

1. I'm using Windows XP.

2. I actually disabled my firewall and tried updating, but it still wouldn't work.

3. I tried updating Builder 1 and it did work (I was one update behind, it seems).

4. I just tried updating Builder 2 and, and now it's NOT telling me that it can't check for updates, but it is telling me there are no updates available (I'm currently on build 2.0.10.11271--I'm obviously way behind, and maybe that's an issue.)

5. Here's the cphupdate.log file. Hope this helps. Rick

Are you using Windows XP or Windows Vista?

Rick, if you are seeing problems connecting to the Internet, please make sure that any firewall or filtering software you have is set to allow CPH Software Updater to access the Internet.

Otherwise, there are downloadable patches available, but they take a little more time to work through. I may work on a different deployment system for those people who can't use the automatic service.

Rick, can you search your computer for a file named cphupdate.log and send that to us or post it here? It will give us more information on the Internet connection failure.

When I run the latest edition of Builder 2.0, I always get an activation screen, I enter the CPH number and it tells me it doesn't match, so I re-enter everything name, congregation, CPH number. It put me through to the hymn license agreement which I agree to and it then tells me that isn't available, so I go back and re-select and activate. Now it says activation is complete, yet the next time I run Builder I have to go through the whole process again.

Ryan:

Is there a way to manually download the updates? For whatever reason, Builder does not see that I am connected to the internet and tells me that it "cannot check for updates at this time".

We're planning on continuing updates for a while yet.

Builder 2 will, in general, have more frequent but smaller updates.

Are we done with updates? The last 4 times I have opened builder there has been a new update. Seriously I just want to do my bulletin for Sunday ;)

Builder version 2.0.0023 was just pushed to the automatic update service; users should receive this on their next check for updates. I'm going to work on the patch notes a little later today; they will be posted to the documentation this afternoon sometime.

This update will also lead to your receiving the first data update push for Builder 2; I'll be making another post with some information on that in a second.

The second data update will be quite large and will be posted later today.
