I was wondering if there are going to be any updates coming down the pike for LSB? The last update was over 2 years ago. In paticular, I was wondering if there would be some updates that would make networking possible. I serve at two parishes and use two different computers for office work. I would like to be able have a common database for the two computers somehow. It would be great if it could be made to work with one of the cloud services like Dropbox or Google Drive.

Also, the deadline issue is still one that I would like to see addressed.

Thanks,

There is a typographical error in the Epistle Reading for Proper 9B. The last verse has a zero at the start of the verse. I would guess that this is just an artifact from the verse number (this is verse 10 - it has a superscript 10, but there are a couple of other places where the last number of the verse number was repeated in regular type).

Same problem. If you view in web layout, you'll see the stray characters. You can then move them to where they should be. Then change view to print view. I notice when you paste elements sometimes they aren't where you wanted them. You keep pasting and it just piles on the pastes in the same location. Move them, and delete the extras.

I love the program and think you all are have done and are doing a great job. I understand the spread too thin, as most church workers are. There is a typo in #405 Collect for the Word. It reads: "Who lives on reigns with you..." should read "and" not "on." My work around was to create a custom collect for the word, and insert it each time we use Service of Prayer and preaching.
When you get around to it, would you please correct this.
Thanks and God's blessings.

We have a small congregation. Because of its size we are unable to sing during communion..at least it's not advised. What I've been doing is downloading a couple organ pieces from Amazon.com and burning them to a CD. The person running our sound system has to switch out from the hymn CD (burned using LSB) to the organ music CD, and then back again to complete the service. Being that she also has to come up for communion, this gets a little tricky.

I would LOVE a way to import MP3's into LSB that can be burned along with the hymns/liturgy onto a CD. Could this open the way for possible copyright infringement? I suppose, but that's not your responsibility to control that - that's the job of the pastor or music leader to do the right thing. This would eliminate the need for swapping out CD's if the congregation is, say, singing a hymn that's not in the hymnal OR if special music is being done (by a choir singing to a CD or something) or in my case, when we need music during communion, but we don't sing.

I have a custom resource I created based on Matins. Mostly, I've simply added more hymns, the introit, and additional readings. However, when I create a service based on this liturgy, the Opening Versicles are missing. Yet, when I go to "My Liturgies" to check this resource, the Opening Versicles are there. Not sure why they would be missing when I create a service. Anyone have any thoughts?

I see its been a year ago since the last post on this so I thought I would reintroduce the topic. I've also noticed that sometimes "hard returns" (enter) are being used where "soft returns" (shft-enter)should be placed in places like psalms, prayers, creeds. etc., which spreads them out over the page as well. By fixing the dead lines and hard/soft returns much time and heartache could be saved by the end-users.

I recently redesigned my WordPress blog site, and was really impressed with the different "layouts" and appearances that one could choose between (submitted by the community of WordPress...ers). At the same time, I was redesigning our church bulletins, and I shared it with a few friends, who promptly asked, "wow, did you do that in Service Builder!?" I had to respond that, no, unfortunately, I designed it in Publisher (as a template) and just plug in the propers each week. (can be viewed here. http://pastordbeck.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/new-bulletin/)

I'd like to suggest some sort of venue for the sharing of these files. Whether they are shared as Templates for Microsoft Office platforms, or somehow integrated into the Service Builder itself (strong preference for the latter!) I think it would be a great way to collaborate in worship planning, and in designing and producing worship materials for each Sunday.

Attempting to put together a service using Matins. Following the Scripture Readings, the heading appears for "Responsory" but there is nothing there.

The workaround is to hit "Insert" then browse through Matins and re-insert the Common Responsory. However, when I do that, I get the little yellow warning triangle that says "This element is usually omitted during the season of Advent."

I have not been able to find ANY resource that says that the Responsory is to be omitted during Advent (including several individuals who worked on the "Lutheran Service Book"). I think this is just an error in coding - especially since the Common Responsory is omitted in Vespers during Advent. There is an Advent-specific Responsory for Vespers (but not Matins - there is an Easter-specific Responsory in Matins that does not appear in Vespers).

I'm running 2.3.1.26192. (Checked for updates before posting this - there weren't any.)

Thanks for your question. I have bumped the suggestion in the ticket repository. We are working on an update for the program that will be coming soon and should be adding Antiphons and Gloria Patri's to our Psalms. As far as the pointing for the Prefaces goes, we will have to see if we have enough arms to do this lifting.
From what I can tell, the prayers you are seeking are already in Builder's database. If you search for Responsive Prayer and Ektene PRayer, they should be in the results list. Collect numbers 166 and 167 respectively. Let me know if you cannot find them.

I saw a discussion from a few years ago where it was being "considered" to add the pointing for the Proper Prefaces to the available material in Lutheran Service Builder. Is this still being "considered"? It would be very very very helpful if you would add this material.

Also, will you be adding the daily office seasonal antiphons to the available material? Again, this would be very very very helpful.

And as a side question, will you be adding the two forms of the Prayer of the Church (Responsive, p. 442-443; Ektene, p. 444-445) to the available material? Again, this would be helpful.

Hi,

I have a request/idea for the "melody" display format for exporting into Powerpoint. I'm very familiar with notation software, so I understand the limitations when working with notation, but I'm wondering if it would be possible either to allow a customizing of the font for the Melody display, or to change the default font to one that's more suited to screens. Even a bolded version of the current default (I think it's just Times New Roman, right?) would be much easier to see on a screen.

For a few hymns, the default line/page breaks don't work well (is there a place to either request changes to that?), so I've created custom versions for our congregation. To keep consistency I use the same font, but made it bold, and it's much easier to read. (As an aside, is there also a place to report "bugs" such as missing slurs on the notation?)

Ideally, a font with a larger x-height, or other features that make it seem "bigger" at the same point size, would be better, such as Tahoma or something like that. If this is a feature request for a future version, please file it as such. I know it's probably impossible to simply allow the user to choose whatever font (though that would be amazing!), but considering a different default would be a worthy idea, IMO.

On the Builder page where you set up the service (add hymns, insert elements, etc.), you should see an icon at the top of the window in the shape of a video projector. Click on this, and your Power Point presentation should appear. You can then save the .ppt file and use it with Power Point. Hope this helps.

In preparation for a wedding, I wanted to use the wedding stanza of 922 Go My Children, with My Blessing. However, when this comes up in Builder, it does not insert the wedding stanza in the middle of the song but instead puts it at the end as text only, while leaving stanza 4 with the music. The only workaround I've come up with is printing up only stanza 1 with music, and then switching to text only and manually inserting stanzas 5 and 4. I would like to be able to export them all with music, though, since there are only three stanzas. Can you help me with this?

Thanks!

While looking for something else, I found a potential solution to the original post. I realize that Lent is long gone, but perhaps this will be useful for the future. Let me start off by saying that the workaround is a little clunky, but it will work.

1. Create a service using the "Empty Service Outline" option

2. The next screen should be the "Insert Element" screen. You may need to click on the "Insert" button to bring up the "Insert Element" box.

3. Click the "Browse" tab

4. Under "Choose a Liturgy", select "My Worship Resources" > "Services" > "Year" > "Month". Within month, you will find the individual services you've created. Click on the desired service.

5. This is where it gets a bit clunky. All of the elements of the selected service are now available to be inserted into the blank service, but you have to drag and drop the elements of the selected service into the blank service. Note that you'll have to do this element-by-element, though dragging major headings will bring all of the elements within that group, cutting down a bit on the amount of dragging and dropping.

6. What you now have is a new service based on a previous service.

I am working on a worship series that I hope to share in LSBX format (among others). Some of the Introits/Graduals are from propers appointed in previous hymnals but not currently available in Builder. (current version - 2.3.1.26192)

I have seen in other posts that the "Create Custom Elements" tool in Builder is the same tool used to create the standard elements. As I'm typing in the custom elements, it would be nice to be able to point them like the other Introits/Graduals. The online documentation for Builder 2 does not include the "Creating and Managing Custom Worship Resources" for me to reference.

Is there a way for me to include chant pointing in my custom elements?

Hey Rev. Podeszwa,
I've added your suggestion for future updates. In the meantime, you can create a custom element for the Gloria Patri, which you can then quickly insert after the Psalm. There is currently in the standard elements, a Gloria Patri for the Divine Service Setting Three. Perhaps this would suffice for you as well. If you need help creating a custom element, let us know!

Stephen,
This is a great suggestion. I assume you are talking about the layouts meaning the line breaks and indentations as they are presented in the Lectionary volumes. I will put a suggestion in the repository for consideration in future releases and updates.
Thanks for your question!
