Builder 1.9 Released

The update to 1.9 was just released to the downloads page, which you can find by clicking here.

This update includes the full set of changes to the Three-Year Lectionary to bring Builder 1.x to completion with readings, propers, and other materials.

Once you have installed 1.9, there is also a patch available that will update you to 1.9.1, which is a very small update intended to solve a couple of outstanding bugs still remaining in the 1.x series of Lutheran Service Builder.

A patch to 1.9.1 was also released earlier this week that should have been automatically installed on any Builder 1.8.5 installation. If you did not receive that update, please run the Check for Updates tool in Builder before attempting to download this update, as the filesize will be much smaller.

If you have any difficulties running the update, please let us know either by commenting here or by submitting a support request.

Lutheran Service Builder 1.9

For those of you who are either unable to follow us to Lutheran Service Builder at this time or are in need of na upgrade to 1.x while you wait for Builder 2 discs to be available or other reasons, we have prepared a 1.9 installation for you to download or receive on CD.

The automatic update engine for Builder 1 has been sending out updates to the Lectionary to cover the upcoming Year B for the past few months, but some users who have fallen behind or don’t have Internet connections might not have those files. This Installer contains updated databases to finish out the Three-Year Lectionary on those computers that would be missing important propers and other information.

The 1.9 Installer will be posted to the Download page sometime late on Friday for your download. As with previous Installers, you can easily download it on a high-speed Internet connection, then transfer it to another computer in order to install the new version.

If you require a CD sent to you containing 1.9, please either email us at lsbsupport@cph.org or submit a support request and we will get one shipped out to you quickly. CDs are not yet available for Builder 2.0; they will not be fully prepared until early in 2009.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Creative Worship Files for Lutheran Service Builder 2.0

These files have been posted since this past Monday, but we thought we should take this space and opportunity to give you some additional information regarding Creative Worship.

Lutheran Service Builder 2.0 was designed to be more extensible to provide our users with additional options. One of these options has been long-requested: the integration of Creative Worship with Lutheran Service Builder to provide those services to our users and allow them to use Builder to utilize elements from both Creative Worship and Lutheran Service Book in the same environment.

That’s now available, and as a promotion, we’ve made the Builder files (and only the Builder files) for Part One of Creative Worship for 2009 available for download absolutely free. These files are intended to serve as “test files” for those customers who might not have Creative Worship and would like to see how the integration with Builder operates. If you take a look at these services and are interested in subscribing to Creative Worship, please click here and fill out the appropriate form.

In order to use the files, follow the instructions given on the download page. Each service is available as a separate file, so you can choose which services to use in a given quarter.

In future releases, the Builder files will be included on the CD-ROM that is distributed with the Creative Worship manual. This provides a convenient and timely way for you to import the services from that quarter into Lutheran Service Builder and begin working with them ASAP.

The most important thing we would like to impress upon our users is that the files for Part One are our first foray into making this resource available in Lutheran Service Builder. It is doubtless that we will find better ways to organize and/or present this information to you and assist you even more greatly in your worship planning process. If you have any suggestions on how to improve the files for Creative Worship, we would very much appereciate it if you would let us know. You can either submit a support request, or join in the discussion already in progress on our forums.

We are proud to finally be providing such a long-time request to our users. We hope you will find using this feature an awesome addition to Lutheran Service Builder.

Builder 2.0.0030 Released

We just pushed a small patch to the automatic update service to bring Lutheran Service Builder up to version 2.0.0030. This patch resolves several crashes that were reported by users in the first few days’ worth of Builder 2 installations.

To retrieve the patch, simply open Lutheran Service Builder. It should connect to the automatic update service without prompting and ask you to download the update. Follow the on-screen prompts and the Updater will install the patch for you.

More detailed notes on the patch are available here.

We are continuing to monitor difficulties with Builder 2 and are working hard to deliver updates and fixes as quickly as possible while still maintaining a high level of quality. Please leave a comment here, submit a support request, or leave a post on our forums if you encounter any difficulties with Lutheran Service Builder 2.

Early Post-Launch 2.0 Issues

We’d like to welcome all of you who have been downloading, installing, and using Lutheran Service Builder 2.0 in the past few days. We have received some truly amazing feedback from all of you and are both pleased that you are enjoying the improvements and additions and thankful that you’ve helped us to find a few issues that are being fixed as I type this.

As we encounter things that are popping up in widespread use, we’ll use this News space to keep you informed of the status of Lutheran Service Builder and our work to improve your experience even further. Please note that to the right of the News page is an entry blank for your email address. If you input your address there and then respond to a quick confirmation mailing, you will receive a notice whenever an update is posted to this site. We invite you to take advantage of email subscriptions (or RSS subscriptions) in order to stay up-to-date with the latest in Builder development.

There are a few issues of which we’d like to make you aware at this time. They have been reported by users on our discussion forums; we also invite any of you to join the discussion there at your convenience.

Psalm Chant Pointing

Right now, the chant pointing toggle is not working properly for Psalm elements. You can still turn them off with the global document preferences, but they can’t be switched on/off for just that Psalm element. There is no workaround for this issue; please either use global settings or edit the final document if you desire to make changes.

Word 97-2003 Output

Also, bookfolded output and image resizing are not working properly with Word 97-2003 (.doc) output. Graphics will appear to take more or less of the page than expected, and documents won’t be printed with a bookfold unless you explicitly set them to do so.

At this time, the best option for compatibility and for workaround is to always export your documents as Word 2007 (.docx) documents. If you do not have Office 2007, you can download a compatibility pack for earlier versions of Office (back to 2002) that will convert the documents for you automatically. You can find that download at the following URL:

These are the major issues we are experiencing with Builder 2.0 at the moment. Some of you have also reported installation issues—some of them related to the Microsoft software we require to use Builder 2.
