LSB Beta Testing
From LSB Documentation
Lutheran Service Builder is a complex software application that requires significant amounts of testing in order to ensure that the vast majority of our customers receive a seamless and simple experience in both using and updating their Builder installations.
To assist in this process, we invite congregations who are interested to assist us in this testing process. Versions of Lutheran Service Builder released through the Public Beta program have passed internal testing and have been declared candidates for release to all Builder customers. Participants in the Public Beta program agree to assist us in testing upcoming updates on a broader installed base to ensure the best experience for the most users.
Participation in the Public Beta is entirely voluntary. The main benefit to beta participants is the opportunity to submit feedback earlier than other Builder customers, and also to have the opportunity to experience new features and fixes before others do.
Builder 1.x Public Beta Participation
At this time, the 1.x Public Beta program has concluded, and no further beta versions will be released. Version 1.09 will be released directly to all customers, and the Beta program will transition to Builder 2.x.
Builder 2.0 Public Beta Participation
Users who desire to assist us in testing Lutheran Service Builder 2.0 and/or would like to receive an early look at feature improvements and changes to Builder are welcome to participate at this time in the Public Beta program for Lutheran Service Builder 2.0. This invitation is made with the following restrictions:
- Lutheran Service Builder 2.0 is currently NOT supported by phone. You may feel free to submit email support requests or to post on the Builder forums (and this is encouraged), but no support will be provided for installing or operating Lutheran Service Builder 2.0 over the phone until it is officially released.
- Public Beta testers for Lutheran Service Builder 2.0 may be asked to install or uninstall both Builder and some required Windows components several times over the course of pre-release testing. These installations and uninstallations can be time-consuming.
- Pre-release beta versions of Lutheran Service Builder may not work on your computer.
To assist in mitigating some of these concerns, and to ensure that all users have a "fall-back" point when transitioning to Lutheran Service Builder 2.0, Builder 2.0 installs alongside Builder 1.x. You will be able to use both concurrently, but they will not share data. Once you have migrated your services and elements to Builder 2.0 during the installation process, no further data from Builder 1.x can be brought forward.
Plus, you get to see what all the buzz is about before everyone else. Many of our 2.x closed beta group have been using 2.x for a bit to prepare their regular services or to perform planning and research. We think you'll find it to be much improved.
Before you begin, we ask that you visit the Lutheran Service Builder discussion forum, register for an account, and note that a forum is set up there specifically for beta discussion. We prefer that the majority of communication regarding beta testing be run through that forum.
Considering the above restrictions and warnings, if you are interested in assisting us in testing Lutheran Service Builder 2.0, then please continue to Installing Lutheran Service Builder 2.x.
