Builder 2.1.4 Released

We have just pushed Lutheran Service Builder version 2.1.4 to the automatic update service, and all users of version 2 should be receiving that update on their next restart of Builder.

2.1.4 includes the addition of several features suggested by our community of users, and we would like to encourage all our customers to provide us with frequent feedback when possible, either by filing a support request or by participating in the discussions on our forums.

We’ve also taken the opportunity to fix a handful of reported bugs and other problems.

A companion data update will be pushed out later this week that includes several large changes to the Lutheran Service Builder databases, many of which have been requested by customers and have been waiting for this update for publication. Please watch this space for more information.

A full list of changes follows.

The following changes have been made to Lutheran Service Builder since version 2.0.44:

Changes

  • Changed the appearance of the search filter to a drop-down menu.
  • Added the search filter to the Plan Service Task (you may now filter search results while trying to find a hymn, for example).
  • Added search sort options to the Search Task and the Plan Service Task.
  • Builder now remembers the last-used filter and sort settings after closing.
  • Added “write my own” tab to Plan Service Task which shows the Hymn Editor for hymns, the Collect Editor for collects, and the Common Element Editor for everything else.
  • In ‘Edit Mode’ in Plan Service Task, search filters results based on the selected element type.
  • The “text with long ending” Content Name is not added to new Collects by default any more. It was an idea used during early development of Builder 1 that was never actually used.
  • Changed the text of no Psalm Tone from “Empty” to “(No psalm tone)” to better indicate to users that the Psalm tones are selectable with the drop-down in question.
  • Tweaked the style of group boxes in the Home Task and Calendar Task to look more like “bubbles” in the task bar.
  • Tweaked the style of popups to look more like “bubbles” in the task bar.
  • If you are looking at the “Browse” or “write my own” tabs for an element in the Plan Service Task and then click on an element that doesn’t support that tab, the Package Selector automatically adjusts to display the “Suggestions” tab.
  • The splash screen and about box have been changed to better reflect the final design of Builder 2.
  • The “About Lutheran Service Builder” and “About data” popups and associated menu commands have been combined into one action and view.
  • Changed the splash progress text to be more human-readable to assist in diagnostics (e.g., from “Loading Lutheran Service Book.Hymns” to “Loading Hymns from Lutheran Service Book…”)
  • In the Package Selector in Plan Service Task, services that are listed for copying are organized by year and month and prefixed with the date of the service.
  • Suggested services are listed in Calendar days so that seasonal holidays are now listed before festivals.
  • New services planned for a given date select the seasonal holiday by default instead of a festival.
  • Clicking “no” on a Calendar day over a suggested service causes the created service to take the holiday of the suggestion which was clicked.
  • If no stanzas are selected in a system of music, the music is no longer printed.
  • The AutoScale feature has been changed. If AutoScale is enabled, Builder automatically scales music up and down. If AutoScale is disabled, Builder will shrink music anyway if the specified scale causes the music to exceed the width of the page.
  • Removed the “About data…” command from the Help menu.
  • Added Peter Reske to the credits in the About box.
  • Added a Subscription expiration date field to the About information.
  • Added an icon to bubble labels to better indicate that they open new dialogs.
  • Changed “priority” to “relevance” in search language to better indicate what that means.
  • Builder now shows “searching…” when beginning a search, then shows the sort criteria after the search is complete, to visually differentiate between a tree that’s empty because a search is in progress and a tree that’s empty because there are no results.
  • If no options exist in the “Write My Own” list, a new one is automatically created.
  • Made .DOC files the default export for service folders. A bug in Word 2007 caused undesirable bookfold output; we decided to push that support into the corner while waiting for a fix from Microsoft.
  • Builder now remembers the user’s choice of export format for the Bulletin Task, Object Viewer, and Presentation Task.
  • Added a warning message when exporting images in a bookfolded document to DOCX format.
  • Prohibited moving the root element of a rite up or down and moving children of a rite out of the root element.
  • The print preview dialog has been removed temporarily until a new one can be created.
  • When navigating back to “Write My Own” after looking at something else, the selected record is cleared.
  • The icons of LSB and all editors have been changed to reflect the new visual style of LSB.
  • The search filter will clear itself upon restarting Builder.
  • The System Reporter will now send log files for CPH Software Updater as well as Lutheran Service Builder.
  • Restoring a database will now show the list of available states using local time instead of UTC, and a 12-hour clock instead of a 24-hour one.
  • The splash dialog now has a title in the taskbar.
  • The logo area and progress bar have been combined in the splash dialog to condense space and also look much more awesome.

Bug Fixes

  • Hitting the Delete key no longer removes results from search results.
  • Resolved an issue introduced recently where “Rich Text with Stanzas” Content Name was reporting that it didn’t support stanzas (new hymns wouldn’t display the dialog prompting users to enter the stanzas of the hymn).
  • Resolves an issue introduced recently where “Reading” elements show their selected content only intermittently in the Service Outline. (Renaming them or entering a custom reading triggered the problem.)
  • Resolved an issue in Plan Service Task where renaming an element in the Service Outline would not cause its caption (or the edit caption textbox) to be refreshed properly in the Service Element Editor.
  • Resolved an issue in the Bulletin Task where line breaks failed to separate music and text overflow stanzas.
  • Allowed “Move Down” command to move the last element in a tree down until it is the last element in the root collection of the tree (i.e., a hymn added to the end of the service outline is no longer forced to be part of a group or option group but can now be made the last element in a document’s root).
  • Resolved a null reference exception after deleting the selected Stylesheet in Bulletin Task or slide template in Presentation Task.
  • Resolved an issue where changing the package selector tab while the package selector was searching would cause the “discarded” results to be displayed.
  • Resolved an issue where the package format failed to report that it supported images.
  • Resolved an issue where the package selector wouldn’t properly filter search results according to the selected element if that element was selected after the service element editor was already in “insert” mode.
  • Resolved an issue where clicking on the “Add” element in the Plan Service Task after looking at a Caption element would cause the package selector to be invisible.
  • Resolved an issue when rendering sliced music when the first slice was a stanza and not a line of music (null reference exception).
  • Resolved an exception that would occur when exporting certain custom elements to .LSBX files.
  • Resolved an issue where the package selector would fail to select user-created objects via double-clicking or right-clicking and choosing “Select Package”.
  • Resolved a rare null reference exception when editing stanzas.
  • Resolved an issue where search results after reindexing had lost their tooltips.
  • Resolved an issue where the cross wasn’t showing up properly in .DOCX and .HTML output.
  • Resolved an issue where double-clicks were rarely registered if a node allowed label editing.
  • More information is now recorded in the log file regarding exceptions caused by access (or lack thereof) to .ini files.
  • Resolved an out-of-range exception that could occur when saving a presentation to MediaShout format.
  • Resolved an exception that could occur when backing up or restoring the user database.
