Data Update for May 14, 2008

A small set of updates have been posted to the automatic update service this morning. They are approximately 500 KB in size and make the following changes to the databases included with Lutheran Service Builder:

  • The Athanasian Creed included with Divine Service, Setting Three has been updated to match the version of it included in Add Service Elements and all other services. The Creed appearing in Setting Three was an older version that included two typographical errors.
    • We hope that this change has occurred early enough to fix the errors for those of you planning to use the Athanasian Creed in your services this upcoming Sunday, and we sincerely thank the customers who have pointed this out to us by e-mail and on our forums.
  • A handful of changes have been made to hymns written or translated by Jaroslav Vajda, to prepare them for a later update that will add his death year to the Info view.
    • A Concordia Publishing House tribute to the life and work of Dr. Vajda has been posted here, and we join with our brothers and sisters here at Concordia Publishing House and throughout the Church in thanks and praise to God for His work through His servant Dr. Vajda.

Users should receive these updates on their next launch of Lutheran Service Builder. If you should encounter any issues, please contact Support at your convenience, and we will be happy to work with you or to make corrections as necessary.

    Hello,

Unfortunately, my Builder software, at this station, does not prompt me for automatic updates. I am unsure as to why. When I launch the Builder and go to the “check updates” menu, it just tells me that “Builder is unable to check for updates at this time”.

Up until now, I have been coming to this webpage every few days and manually downloading the updates. But for the last few updates, you have not provided a link to manually update. Can you advise me please as to how I may receive these updates? Thank you.

Data updates can’t be downloaded separately at this time (this is something we are working to improve in the next iteration of Builder). We use two separate update systems: one for the program itself, and one for the databases – and the database updater wasn’t designed to be updated apart from the automatic service.

When a new version of the program itself is released, the newest databases will be packaged in with that version, and you will be able to download the cumulative changes since the previous version.

    I apologize for this inconvenience.

Do you have an Internet security suite like Norton/Symantec or McAfee running on the computer in question? If so, it may be blocking Builder from accessing the Internet. Try turning it off temporarily and see what happens.

Yes! Your suggestion worked. (I had no idea–wish that I had asked sooner). Thank you for your prompt reply!
