The upgrade for Lutheran Service Builder bringing it to version 1.07 is now available through the automated update service. The update is approximately 75MB in size and may take longer than usual to download, due to a high influx of traffic to the update service. Users of Lutheran Service Builder should be prompted to download the new update on their next restart.
We apologize in advance if you encounter any inconvenience in attempting to retrieve the update while our Web server is busy responding to requests. If you are unable to obtain the update or the download is proceeding too slowly to be effective, you may feel free to cancel the update process and trigger the update at a later time.
If you need to download the 1.07 updater separately from the automatic service included in Lutheran Service Builder, that download (and instructions on its installation) is available on this page. Follow the instructions listed to install 1.07 on your computer.
If you encounter any difficulty in the upgrade process to 1.07, please contact Lutheran Service Builder Support at 800-346-6120 or via e-mail at lsbsupport@cph.org. A technician will be happy to help you with your upgrade process.

The following changes have been made to Lutheran Service Builder since version 1.06:
Program-Wide Changes
- Exported *.lsb services from 1.07 cannot be imported by earlier versions. The reverse also applies. (328)
- 1.07 introduces several updates to the databases included with Lutheran Service Builder that dramatically increase performance and make behind-the-scenes operations more efficient. Due to this fact, users with versions prior to 1.07 will not be able to receive any further database updates until they have upgraded to 1.07. Assistance for dial-up and non-Internet-using customers is available; call 800-346-6120 for more information or e-mail lsbsupport@cph.org.
- In rare instances, Builder would inform users of concurrency errors (trying to edit the same service by more than one user) that didn’t really exist. This has been corrected. (327)
- The utility for retrieving updates to Lutheran Service Builder has been forked into a separate program. Users can now download updates without launching Builder, and updates can run in the background while users continue to work. Builder will no longer restart itself upon the completion of database update processes. This new system allows for better expandability and changes to the system without affecting Builder itself. (297)
- Error logs generated by Builder will now be somewhat shorter and include additional diagnostic data to assist the development team in fixing problems. (46)
- The reporting process used to send error reports to CPH upon a program crash now includes a blank for users to enter comments on the crash, and report much more information for troubleshooting purposes. (348)
- The menu option in Help sending users to the Lutheran Service Builder discussion forums now points to the new forum location. (207)
- The Edit menu now works much more reliably throughout Builder and notes the keyboard shortcuts for each command.
Initialization Process
- A failed loading process will now provide more detailed and friendly error messages to users. (183)
- Users on systems with Internet Explorer 7 installed will no longer see ridiculously long load times when starting Builder. For all users, this process should be significantly faster. If you are still experiencing extremely long load times, please contact Support at your convenience for additional diagnosis. (8)
- Database changes triggered by the initialization process are now much more reliable and should lead to fewer “schema not recognized” errors on the installation of an upgrade. (186)
- If Builder cannot find databases in the listed datapath given in its initialization file, it now attempts to use the default installation location as a first resort. (108)
User Interface
- The “About…” option has been renamed to “About Lutheran Service Builder” to make it easier to find and more descriptive. (97)
- The Setup Wizard has been redesigned to make it harder for users to accidentally create more than one Location and lock themselves out of the setup process. (209)
- Content added after the 1.07 update will now contain special character punctuation, such as “curly” quotes and em dashes. Previously-entered content will not contain these changes until a future update. All Lectionary materials starting with Year A have these changes.
- Element previews and the custom text input area now use a larger font size and have been converted to use Times for better readability.
- A new Advanced tab has been added to the Preferences dialogue. This is now where users can set their warning preferences for things like duplicate tunes and/or hymns.
Searching
- Hymn searches can now use wildcard characters to increase the versatility of hymn searches where the user might not remember all of a text to search. (135)
- Searching for propers and pericopes will now list the Proper number rather than the day after Pentecost (which was displaying the calculation formula in 1.6). (27)
- Hymn searches now include a box for entering a number or range of numbers. (306)
- The hymn info view now displays all occasions on which the selected hymn is suggested by the Hymn Selection Guide. (322)
- The currently-selected service can no longer be displayed as the “Last Time Used” in the hymn info view. (321)
- Hymn searches are now run using an indexed list of hymn stanzas, rather than actively searching every hymn in the database. This should result in faster and more accurate hymn search results. (308)
Calendar Step
- Default (gray) services in the service listbox will now refresh themselves upon detecting a properties change for the currently selected Location. (320)
- Ascension can now be observed an on adjacent Sunday. (319)
Outline Step
- The drop zone at the end of all outlines has been increased to make it easier to add elements to the end of a service. (70)
- The amount and type of information carried by a saved custom outline is now more selective and logical. Content selected will no longer move with a custom service outline. (58)
- Users are now given the option to begin with a blank service outline, rather than starting with the stock outlines provided with Builder. (24)
- An infrequent problem where an errant scroll bar would interfere with the service list has been corrected. (316)
Content Step
- Hymns that are prescribed as part of a default order of service will now properly display their previews in the Content Step. (167)
- Psalm tone selections should now save themselves properly from session to session. (155)
- The controls presented when working with custom elements in the Content Step have been rearranged to increase usefulness and reduce redundancy. (18)
- The element “Epistle Reading” is now properly titled “Epistle.” (48)
- Removing chant pointing when a pointing character was adjacent to an instance of the Tetragrammaton will no longer render the remainder of your service in small caps. (50)
- The “jump to a hymn number” box in the Content Step has been removed because of the addition of a numerical search in the regular criteria. (306)
- Hymn suggestions may now be sorted either alphabetically (the new default) or numerically. (318)
- A few lingering bugs with pericope parsing (mostly having to do with letters in citations) have been fixed. (310)
- Sort options now have tooltips. (305)
- Clicking in the citation entry box to add your own Scripture lesson now automatically selects the radio button used to activate that selection. (212)
- Trying to move beyond the Content step when you have included a hymn that is not provided in the Pew Edition set to display title only now provides users with a warning message. (98)
- Users can now drag custom service elements into the outline to set them as selections, just like with hymns. (341)
- Adjusting the view zoom in the preview window using a scroll wheel will no longer cause the previewed material to disappear. (329)
- The control for removing chant pointing in the Psalm should now always appear when appropriate.
Copyright Step
- The correct contact information to obtain a license to reprint LSB 712 (”Seek Ye First”) will now display when you are stopped to obtain permission. (345)
PowerPoint Step
- Refrains in hymns will now show and project properly in created PowerPoint presentations. (28)
- Scripture lessons with many hard returns no longer produce large numbers of PowerPoint slides. (92)
- Subcaptions for content (such as hymn numbers or Scripture references) will now appear in PowerPoint slides. (159)
- PowerPoint text is now bolded/unbolded according to the service’s needs, not completely bolded throughout the entire service. (160)
- PowerPoint slides no longer break at every hard line break in liturgical elements. PowerPoint presentations will see a greatly reduced number of slides in general. (174)
- PowerPoint slides should break cleanly at all stanzas, rather than running into each other. (6)
- Color control in PowerPoint generation now works as intended. (313)
- Users now have many more options when defining the style of a PowerPoint slide and can affect finer details. (312)
Bulletin Step
- Hymns may now be exported at sizes greater than 100%, to create hymn graphics larger than those in the Pew Edition. (176)
- Escape characters (such as slashes and ampersands) present in service titles will no longer disrupt bulletin export. (21)
- The Lord’s Prayer will no longer carry an additional full paragraph indentation in bulletin output. (169)
- The word “Text:” should now appear again in copyright notices attached to hymns. (195)
- The output converter will no longer strip small caps text effects from instances of the Tetragrammaton. (346)
- Users can no longer edit the default stylesheet that comes bundled with Lutheran Service Builder. A warning message will be displayed, and you will be prompted to save the stylesheet changes under a new name.
Single Worship Resource Export
- Hymns exported as single worship resources now include the hymn number alongside the hymn title. (178)
Importing Services
- Services that use custom outlines will now properly transport those outlines along with the service file itself. This solves a problem where a user could import a service, but not proceed past the Outline step. (93)
Content
- The Propers for Year A of the Three-Year Lectionary have been added.
- Assigned Psalms for each Sunday will no longer include verse numbers, and will now (starting with Year A) automatically include the Gloria Patri (where appropriate) and their assigned antiphonal verses. An update is planned for a future version to make the Gloria and the antiphons optional content.
- “Hail Thee, Festival Day” (LSB 489) now displays correctly in finished output. (325)
- A rare instance where certain MIDI drivers would cause melodies to not play in Windows Vista has been fixed. (324)
- Buttons for printing or copying Scripture references out of the hymn Info panel have been added. (304, 303)
Custom Worship Resources
- Tunes for custom-created hymns should now be displaying correctly. (326)
- Pressing the F5 key while entering custom text will no longer clear the entry field. (323)
- The interface controls for inputting the birth and death years of composers are now labeled correctly. (311)

When will additional rites like ordination and installation of pastors be included?
While it is early yet, what about Ash Wednesday rites?
The pastoral installation rites are very long and branch several times, so they are taking longer to work through and to check for quality control.
The Ash Wednesday service will be added before the end of the year, and a pass will be made through the rest of the Lenten services to make sure they are content-complete and to fix a couple of nits that remain from last year.
Are the Introits available in the service builder – I just noticed that they are not printed in the Hymnal!!!
Is there a charge for the 1.07 update??
Two responses:
1) Yes, the Introits are present in Service Builder. For Year A, you must have installed the 1.07 update, but they are all present.
2) There is no charge for the 1.07 update. You may freely download it from the link above, or if you have no access to high-speed Internet either at church or at home or another location, you may contact Support and request a disc.
